The Real World-Friendship

Something can to my mind lately....friends or friendships as adults. I asked about it on my FB page last night and it was overwhelming to see the amt of responses I got.  I've never been one to have a whole slew of friends-and as an adult expecially as an adult woman I've begun to look at friendship and the value of it. I find it incredibly hard to make friends as an adult-not sure if it's just me and being unsure of myself. I somewhat recently received a very back-handed complement from someone that I considered a friend about my business....stick with what you're good at. I tried to not take it personal as this person has a certain way with words-but honestly what kind of friend says something to you like that? It really got me thinking...how do you find quality friendships as an adult? I'm not one of the lucky ones that made life-long friendships as a child-it just wasn't where I was at the point in my life-I sheltered myself from close friendships for a variety of reasons...lots going on at home that I was embarrassed to have to share, depression, low self-esteem etc.

My son started school this year and I've met some parents that have similar interests, ideals and live pretty close to us but it's been difficult to take that awkward step from saying hi at the playground to going out for a drink or having them over for a barbecue, doesn't it always seem like other people have all of the friends they need, but maybe they're sitting there thinking the same things about you....

I sometimes freak out and have slight panic attacks about living life to it's fullest and spending time with those that make us most happy but is it something that just happens or is there a lot of work involved to find these people? And then what do you do with the friends that turn out to be not in it for you? I have one really amazing friend right now that I am so glad that I have and want more of those type of friends-someone to talk to often, share EVERYTHING with and KNOW they won't judge you in the least-or if they do, they atleast tell you that's they're judging you :)

So I'm not really sure what I'm going to accomplish by posting this-maybe it will give me the motivation to get out there and start searching for the types of friendships that I think we all deserve, will get me to step back and evaluate friendships, or to rekindle old ones or to be happy with the ones that I have right now...or maybe I just like to ramble.

Something a Little Different for the Holiday

So Easter is this weekend and we've already done one egg hunt and two more coming up this weekend...not only does it mean a lot of fun for the kids...but also lots and lots of candy...bleh.....sugar crashes are the worst!  So in an effort not to contribute any more to the chocolate comas the kids will be in we're going to fill their baskets with local coffee shop gift cards-yeah they love their "coffees" with mom and dad(aka soy milk), hopefully some homemade playdoh since all of ours is brown now(no matter what we do they all magically mix together), and perhaps some socks or underwear since they're both big hits in our fam.
Don't get me wrong we still have our fill of easter chocolate...I jsut made this yesterday and have already eaten WAY too much....might tweak the recipe next time to have more graham crackers and less butter.

Going Low Tech and No Tech

A few months ago I made the decision to downgrade my phone-no internet, no browsing and only text messages no media. In an age where everyone else is upgrading I chose the opposite-I'm not going to lie it was HARD for me. I missed being able to constantly check my various accts to see what's new...guess what after a few days-I didn't care so much. The reason I chose to take this step was that my husband was complaining that I was always checking my phone and no matter how defensive I got...he was right I was always checking my phone.

It's been a few months now and I've realized a few things...my biz did NOT suffer-I still respond to people within a few hours, our cell phone bill is much less-making finances a bit better, and I'm not constantly missing out on little but important moments in my family due to being on my phone.

I bring this up because yesterday I came home and was just frustrated...our house was a disaster and our kids were constantly whining about watching tv and we were just fighting all the time. So I did something drastic....I took the tv away. I unplugged it and hid it in my office. When my son came home home school(he's 4) he noticed after about a half hour and immediately threw a big trantrum(I now knew I was right about removing it), my daughter(she's 2) asked me what was missing aka why was there a big dusty empty cabinet in our living room....and my husband noticed immediately and threw an even bigger tantrum than my son. So you think the rest of the night was a nightmare right....NO we went on a drive, did some errands and then came home and instead of watching cartoons to wind down like normal we played a game-as a FAMILY-it was great and a lot of fun.

My husband made me bring the tv back last night-but he vowed to oly watch an hour and then this morning when he got up with them-they only watched 30 min of tv and then PLAYED. They have now been playing together for hours-they lived with the dinosaurs, got married, played a  board game, built a giant tower and are still going-

Don't get me wrong I am grateful for modern technology but I think sometimes we tend to rely on it too heavily and don't really realize it until we're at a breaking point. Well I "broke" yesterday and now we're working on rebuilding.

Happy Friday!

Presidents Day

So Happy Holiday Monday! well not really happy around here unfortunately...our little guy is running a fever and isn't feeling so well. I hate having sick kiddos, I hate hate having one sick kiddo and one well kiddo pretty much knowing the other one will be getting sick next. I love how sick kiddos want to cuddle, but I hate watching their sad little faces and having to tell them that they can't eat or drink this or that because they will prob throw it up...ahhhh parenting. So if you're looking for us today we'll be parked in the living room watching entirely way too many cartoons and trying to rid our house of these nasty bugs that have been hitting our house hard lately.

Creating an Illusion

I've had this idea in my head for awhile and I wasn't sure if I was crazy or it was a great idea...still not sure what other people will think-I love it, but my husband gave me the 'are you crazy' eyes when I did it.
We have a window in our stairwell and I've always wanted to do something with it, but it was a short window so I never wanted to take light away. Well I came up with the idea of getting blinds and handing them higher than the actual window. I, also being the procrastinator that I am....kept putting this off...that is until my parents gave us 3 blinds from their house. Two of them went into E's room and the last one ended up being the perfect size for the window.
Maybe I'm crazy but I think it gives the illusion that the window is larger.

That's my 2 cents for the day.
